Prism Galaxy Capelet

Prism’s Laura Bryant has once again created a magnificent
yarn with dazzling color.
Galaxy is a very wide ribbon with
intermittent patches of gold or silver metallic. The knitted fabric
is silky and yet has body, and the metallic gives it a fabulous
look.

And Laura has designed a delightful capelet that you can knit
up in an evening or two. The capelet is a perfect light-weight
cover up, showcasing Prism’s Galaxy to its best advantage.

Superior Myrtle Leaf Shawl

Filatura Di Crosa Superior is one of the most luxurious laceweight yarns we’ve ever seen! A blend of brushed cashmere and silk, it is literally as light as a feather and feels like cotton candy. It is a magical fiber that feels cool in summer and warm in winter.

Best of all, it comes in the most beautiful colors you can imagine. The pictures don’t do it justice at all. We love Superior and so do our customers! We can hardly keep it in stock.

The Myrtle Leaf Shawl is a design from the Spring/Summer 2008 Filatura Di Crosa pattern book. It will meet all of your summer wardrobe needs — from weddings to barbecues.

If you love to knit lace, this shawl is a “must-knit”! If you are a lace novice, it is not too hard, and will help to hone your skills. We highly recommend it for all. Each week String features a new project on our website offered as a kit at 15% off!

This week’s project uses 3 skeins of Filatura Di Crosa Superior. If you don’t already have it, you will also need the Filatura Di Crosa Spring/Summer 2008 pattern book. Both are available at 15% off this week!

Prism Stuff Shrug

There is nothing more glamorous to knit with for scarves, shawls, shrugs and wraps than Prism Stuff. If you have knit with it before, you know what it’s like to be stopped on the street and asked where you got such a gorgeous garment! If you haven’t tried it before, you’re in for a real treat!

Each skein of Prism Stuff consists of many different textures of strands that have been hand dyed and tied together by hand so that one yarn changes to another as you knit. It is exciting to see the colors and textures evolve as you knit!

Fabulous for all occasions, String’s Prism Stuff Shrug is easy and fun to knit and easy and fun to wear! It is the perfect Spring/Summer project.

Prism Stuff comes in four versions:
Wild Stuff- contains mohair, wool, alpaca
Neat Stuff- contains same as wild stuff but without eyelash
Cool Stuff- no mohair, wool or alpaca
Light Stuff- lighter weight, no mohair wool or alpaca, very little eyelash

Each week String features a new project on our website
offered as a
kit at 15% off! Every kit includes the yarn
and the pattern.

New Yarns!

Posted in General on November 10th, 2007

We’re working hard to add more yarns and projects to the online store! Added this week:

S. Charles Mist

S. Charles Mist, a new heathery 100% cashmere yarn from Tahki/Stacy Charles. This ultra-soft cashmere comes in great traditional colors as well as a few unusual fashion colors, and it knits up beautifully at about 4 to 4.5 sts/inch into soft, light garments.

S. Charles Must

Also from Tahki/Stacy Charles, S. Charles Must is a new tweedy 100% cashmere that’s been flying off the shelves ever since the Multi Wrap Kit came on the scene. This cashmere has an unusual tweedy construction that knits up into wonderfully fluffy, light fabric with a subtle texture.

To see these and all the new yarns we’ve added recently, check out the New Yarns section of our shopping cart!

As always if you have any questions or need help, call us at 212-288-9276 or email us at linda@stringyarns.com.

Introducing: String Classica and String Dolce cashmeres!

Posted in General on October 18th, 2007

Cashmere yarn

We’re so excited to announce the arrival of our long-awaited new exclusive cashmeres! Two of our three yarn lines have already arrived in the store and were greeted with rave reviews (believe me when I say this stuff is flying out of here!).

The 3rd line is in transit from Italy right now (we’re eagerly checking the UPS site every hour to see if it’s landed in the US yet!) and I’ll try to get it up online as soon as possible. In the meantime, feast your eyes on the first two:

String Dolce Cashmere

First up is String Dolce, 100% cashmere yarn with a gorgeous halo (that doesn’t pill! We tried!) and interesting, deep heathered colors. It knits up at about 4 sts/inch on size 9 needles, and is seriously the nicest cashmere we’ve ever knit with. Since we got to hand-pick the colors, we decided to give you a few neutral staples like a gorgeous black with lighter flecks in it, all the way to a stunning pumpkin orange with every shade of orange inside it.

String Classica Cashmere

The other line is our String Classica, which is the more traditional cashmere you would expect coming from Italy. With this one we wanted to provide you with the ultimate in luxury cashmere in a wide range of colors, everything from gorgeous, timeless baby colors to neutrals to fashion colors. At 4.5 sts/inch, this cashmere lends itself to many of our favorite designers (think Debbie Bliss and Rowan patterns knit in 100% cashmere!) and is thin enough to wear indoors. This instant classic yarn feels soft and light, and the colors have a gorgeous subtle heathery look — the sign of truly high quality cashmere!

They are both insanely pettable, if you’re in the area come check them out!

(psst, guess what we’re using for next month’s StringDirect patterns . . .)

Website updates!

Posted in General on September 21st, 2007

I’ve been working hard at getting new fall yarns added to the website and changing some of the functionality to make it easier to shop and find what you’re looking for. I have a huge list of yarns to update and add, and each week you’ll see new yarns added to the site until they’re all up.

This week I’ve been working on updating the current inventory to reflect new colors. I just finished updating the stock of Koigu KPPPM that’s available online: There are now over 50 colors in the web store!

There are also new colors in Tahki Torino and Torino Bulky, as well as Filatura di Crosa Superior (the last few colors finally came in!).

Coming next will be new yarns from Tahki/S.Charles, Rowan (did you hear we’re carrying select Rowan yarns now? We also have the new Rowan 42 magazine in stock!), and new colors of Prism Cashmere.

Oh, and word came today that a very special shipment is leaving Italy next week . . . stay tuned for some of the most exciting new yarn we’ve ever ordered!

New Koigu Cashmere colors are HERE!

Posted in General on August 28th, 2007

The long-awaited second shipment of our exclusive Koigu Cashmere has arrived! So if you’ve been waiting for the new crop to arrive to pick your color, you now have 6 new colors to pick from!

(btw, keep you eye on this blog for some exciting news to come in the next few weeks . . .)

Filatura Superior is here!

Posted in General on August 8th, 2007

Another new fall yarn we’ve been really looking forward to is Filatura di Crosa Superior which just came in! This laceweight cashmere/silk yarn reminds us of other laceweight yarns like Kidsilk Haze, but it’s even more luxurious because it’s cashmere!

You may have seen Clara’s rave review a few weeks ago at Knitters Review (if you haven’t, it’s here), and we have to say we wholeheartedly agree!

More new fall yarns!

Colinette Iona

Now that the sale’s over we can concentrate on the new stuff!

The new Colinette Iona is already here, and this one’s really special! A blend of wool, mohair and silk, Colinette Iona has a gorgeous sheen and subtle fuzzy halo, and knits up into a gorgeous fabric.

The new yarn is supported by a new pattern book, which has great patterns in it for cardigans, sweaters and vests. The cover hoodie is especially cute!

The yarn label also has a one-skein hat pattern on it, which is the perfect way to try out this yarn!

(BTW, the Fall Vogue and Fall Interweave just came, too . . .)

Our summer sale starts NOW!

Posted in General on July 30th, 2007

Sale runs through Saturday, August 4th, 2007! We’re making room for the amazing new fall yarns that have already started pouring in the door . . .
