String Instructors

Lisa Hoffman

Lisa is our instructor extraordinaire! She joined us on a part-time basis in 2007 and is now the store manager. She has developed a number of very special courses, most notable of which is her innovative Directed Knitting. Lisa is a well-published designer as well. Along with her book Faerie Knitting, she has had designs published in Vogue Knitting, Interweave, and TSC pattern books among others. Lisa has also done a number of well-loved designs for String including our fabulous Sampler Blanket, and the super popular Kelsey and Reagan Hats.

Keith Leonard

Keith Leonard gained a love for knitting at the early age of 11 when he joined a lunchtime knitting program at his grade school in his hometown of Haworth, New Jersey.

After working at several knitting stores in upstate New York, New Jersey and New York City, he discovered that while knitters love to knit, most don't have the skills, knowledge, and/or desire to do the "finishing." So he took a chance and started Knits All Done - a specialized service for knitwear finishing.

Keith now travels the country teaching knitting and knitwear finishing classes at yarn shops, knitting guilds and Vogue Knitting Live events. He also dyes and sells yarn.

Pam Grushkin

I love to share my passion for knitting and crochet through teaching and designing. My designs have been published in Vogue Knitting, Knitting Socks with Hand-painted Yarn, One + One Hats, One + One Wraps, Cowls, & Capelets, Tahki Stacy Charles and independently as Pam Grushkin Designs. I have worked and taught knitting at yarn stores since 2004. Over the years I have built a rich curriculum of classes that range from beginner to intermediate. During the Pandemic, as a way to stay engaged with my clients, I began to teach “virtually”. I use special cameras and descriptive dialogue to ensure students still get the full class experience and have success with their projects.

Shaina Bilow

In addition to being a Craft Yarn Council Certified Knitting Instructor and a Knitting Guild of America Professional Finisher, I’ve been knitting and crocheting for nearly two decades and working & teaching in Local Yarn Stores and in my private studio. My patterns and teaching style reflect my years of experience working with knitters of all levels and I enjoy answering even the most challenging queries about your projects. Most of my work is self-published, but my designs have also been featured in Tahki/Stacy Charles Publications, Noro Magazine, Interweave Magazine, and Knitscene Magazine.

From beginner level to advanced knitters and crocheters, I’m a seasoned instructor who wants both my own students and knitters around the world using my patterns to feel empowered by what they can create with their hands. And, simply put, I just love turning string into unique, wearable pieces of art.

Oh yes, and my favorite color is: RAINBOWS!
